It’s pronounced “Ka re Li a”

We take our name from a quiet, peaceful and inspiring region of eastern Finland nestled close to the Russian border and known to most of the outside world for its scenic beauty and warm people.

But to us, the region and people of Karēlia represent far more—they are the living example of the promise and potential of True Health.

For more than 40 years, North Karēlia has been home to a landmark study that chronicles the impact of dietary change on preventable chronic disease and the mortality and quality of life of the people of the region. Once identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the least healthy region in the world, North Karēlia has seen life expectancy increase by over six years and mortality rates drop by more than 45%!

How did they do it? It’s simple—by eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat and saturated fats.

In the process, North Karēlians have dramatically reduced the incidence of cardiovascular disease and cancer. Deaths due to heart disease fell by 73% between 1972 and 1992, and the rates have continued to decline by almost 8% a year since then. Over the same period, all causes of cancer fell by 44%.
